Before You Begin

Here are some common terms and concepts that you must be familiar with before you begin.

Oracle Management Cloud Terms

Term Description
Alerts Information generated in response to an availability issue or when a metric crosses its thresholds. Conditions for generating alerts are defined in Alert Rules. Alerts sent to administrators by using various channels, such as, email and SMS are known as notifications.
Alert Rules A set of rules that define the conditions under which alerts are generated and notifications sent when an alert is raised. Alert conditions consist of a metric, a comparison operator, and thresholds against which metric values are evaluated.
Entities Entities are monitored resources such as databases, host servers, compute resources, or application servers.
License Editions License editions are predefined categories of Oracle Management Cloud offerings.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Terms

Term Description
Bucket A logical container used by Object Storage for storing your data and files.
Compartment A collection of related resources such as virtual machines and databases.
Group A collection of users who need the same type of access to a particular set of resources or compartment.
Object Storage A storage architecture that allows you to store and manage data as objects.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Identity and Access Management (IAM) Allows you to control what type of access a group of users have and to which specific resources.
Policy A statement that defines access on a compartment to a given group.
Region A localized geographic area in which Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is physically hosted.
Resource The cloud object that you create and use when interacting with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
Tenancy The root compartment that contains all of your organization's compartments and other Oracle Cloud Infrastructure resources.
