Create a Help Layout

If you want to provide your business users instructions you can localize, create a help layout you can use to describe your workbook and how to use it. The content you add here is included in the translation files you'll send to your translator.

Before you proceed, make sure you have an integrated workbook with at least one data layout.
To create a help layout:
  1. From your integrated workbook, create a new worksheet or open an empty worksheet.
  2. Select the cell where you want to place the help layout.
  3. From the Oracle Visual Builder tab, select Create Help Layout from the Advanced menu.

The add-in creates a new layout with a set of sample lines. The Layout Designer displays the content of the layout and provides controls for editing it.

  4. Edit the layout from the Layout Designer as required:
    • Use the available edit icons (Edit icon) to change the origin cell or worksheet title.
    • Reorder the help lines by dragging a line up or down or by right-clicking a line and selecting an action (Move Up, Move Down, and so on) from the popup menu.
    • Add, edit, or delete a help line using the appropriate icon next to Help Lines.

When you add or edit a line, the add-in opens the Help Line Editor.

From this editor, add or edit the text string, then set the style to either "Section" (for a heading) or "Normal" (for paragraph text).

To add a hyperlink to the text, enter a URL in the Link field.

When you are ready to translate your workbook, follow the steps in Translate Your Integrated Workbook.

Tip:

When you save or publish your workbook, be sure to activate the help worksheet first so that business users will see it first when opening the workbook.

Note:

If the add-in detects a language change, it prompts the business user to redraw all layouts or skip the redraw. With either option, the help layout is redrawn—even when the user chooses to skip a redraw for data layouts. See Language Change Detection.
