Add the Incident Summary Thread Filter to a Report

By adding the Incidents.Summary/Thread filter to a report, you can use one filter to search incidents by reference numbers, subject lines, and thread entries.

Before you start

If this incidents field is not available when you create the filter, Submit a Service Request to have the option enabled on your site.

If an incidents report includes the Incidents.Summary/Thread (search_thread) search filter, you can search for incidents by their reference numbers, by text in subject lines, or by text anywhere in the incident threads. The search includes an implied wildcard (*), so you can enter partial values in the search field, and any records matching the partial value will be returned.

By default, the words you enter in the search have an implied OR between them, so search results will return records that have any of the words. To require all words to be in the returned records, enter a plus sign before each word in the search thread.

This procedure assumes that you're familiar with creating and editing reports, and adding report filters.

Here's what to do

  1. Open the report you want to edit.
  2. If the Home tab is not active, click it to make it the active tab.
  3. Click Add Filter.
    The Add Filter window opens.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • Type incidents.search_thread in the Expression field.
    • Click Use Data Dictionary, expand the Incidents tree, double-click the Summary/Thread(search_thread) field, and then click OK.
  5. Verify that Equals is selected in the Operator drop-down list.
We recommend using only the Equals operator with the incidents.search_thread filter. This ensures that the values you enter in the filter include the implied wildcard.
  6. If you want a default search value for the filter, type it in the Value field.
  7. Enter values for the other fields on the Add Filter window, as described in Create a Fixed or Runtime Selectable Filter.
  8. Click OK.

When you use the report, the filter will be available on the Search window. You can also add the filter to the docked filters area at the top of the report.
