Importing Metadata into Copied Worksheets

You can copy the metadata from a source sheet to a destination sheet using the Import Metadata option.

Note:

Once the metadata from a source sheet is imported in a destination sheet, this operation cannot be undone.

To import metadata to a copied worksheet:

  1. Back up your work.
  2. Use Excel to copy the source sheet.

This operation copies the visible contents of the source sheet but not the metadata (connection information, POV selections, alias tables, and such items) to the destination sheet.

  3. Open the destination sheet where you want to import metadata.
  4. With the destination sheet active, from the Smart View ribbon, select More and then Import Metadata to display a list of open sheets in the workbook which contain Smart View metadata.
  5. From the list, select the source sheet that contains the metadata that you want to import to the destination sheet.
  6. Click OK.
A warning message appears informing that the metadata in the destination or the active sheet will be overwritten with the metadata from the source sheet and the operation cannot be undone.
  7. Click Yes in the warning message to proceed importing metadata.
    • You can view the imported metadata in the Sheet Info dialog box.
    • If you import metadata from a multiple ad hoc grid sheet, then the metadata of all the grids present in the source sheet is imported in the destination sheet. You can view the POV of the grids on the destination sheet and the metadata in the Sheet Info dialog box under separate sections such as Connection (Grid 1), Connection (Grid 2), and so on.
  8. Click Refresh to refresh the destination sheet before proceeding with further operations.
