Understanding Reference Doclet Recommendations
When you refresh a reference doclet, the service processes all available content associated with that doclet and updates embedded content throughout the report package.
The refresh process includes the following steps:
- Refreshing report or Microsoft Excel content
- Updating Available Content
- Updating embedded content within regular doclets
- Checking out and checking in affected doclets
To help maintain optimal performance, Oracle recommends the following:
- Limit reference doclets to approximately 50 per report package.
- Limit Available Content objects to approximately 30 per reference doclet.
- Limit the total Available Content objects to approximately 250 per report package.
- Identify unused Available Content and remove it where appropriate.
- Identify and resolve broken embedded-content references.
- Review persistent refresh warnings and errors and address their underlying causes.
Although higher counts are supported, refresh and processing operations may require additional time.
Note:
Print All Selections can efficiently generate multiple report variations, but it can also increase the number of Available Content objects. When using this option, continue to consider the recommendations of approximately 30 Available Content objects per reference doclet and approximately 250 per report package.Reference doclets participate in the Author phase, but not in the Review or Sign Off phase. A reference doclet is not merged into the published report, only its available content that is embedded in a consuming doclet is included.
