Assigning Security to Dimension Members

Before you can assign access to dimension members, you must select the Apply Security check box on the dimension’s Edit Dimension Properties page. See Enabling or Disabling Security for Dimensions.

You can assign security to dimension members at a member level or at a parent level. Use Member Level to specify whether the children or descendants of that member will inherit its permissions. Assigned permissions take precedence over inherited permissions.

To assign, edit, and remove access permissions to members:

  1. Click the Navigator Navigator icon icon.
  2. Under Create and Manage, click Dimensions.
  3. From the Dimension drop down menu, select the dimension that contains that member that you want to assign security to.
  4. Select the member, and then click Assign Access Assign Access.
  5. Select the User or Group tab to assign access to individual users or groups.
  6. To add access:
    1. Click Actions, and then Add Access.
    2. Select the user or group to add access to.
    3. From Type of Access, select an option:
      • Read
      • Write
      • None
      • Display

    4. Optional: Select a member level:
      • Member
      • Children
      • Children(inclusive)
      • Descendants
      • Descendants(inclusive)
    5. Click Add.

To modify access:

  1. From the Dimension screen, on the member to edit access for, click Assign Access Assign Access.
  2. Select the user or group access rights to edit, click Actions, and then Edit Access.
  3. From Type of Access, select an option:
    • Read
    • Write
    • None
  4. Optional: Select a member level:
    • Member
    • Children
    • Children(inclusive)
    • Descendants
    • Descendants(inclusive)
  5. Click Set.

To remove access:

  1. From the Dimension screen, on the member to remove access for, click Assign Access Assign Access.
  2. Select the user or group access rights to edit, click Actions, and then Remove Access.
  3. Click OK on the confirmation dialog box.
