Dimension Top Levels
The top levels of dimensions impact usability:
-
Design for all data in first hierarchy to roll up to top of dimension
-
Use "Total", "All", and "No" members in the primary hierarchy
-
The "Total" member houses all data whether or not a ‘real’ member is associated
-
The "All" member houses the primary hierarchy
-
The "No" member is used for data that has not yet, or will not, be assigned to a member of the dimension
-
-
Alternate hierarchies should not roll up to top
These choices make it easier to:
-
Define rules
-
Use built in reports (Stage Balancing, Trace, Prof Curves)
-
Use Smart View and other reporting tools
