Overview of Workflows

A workflow helps you visualize the flow of steps while performing an activity. It guides you through your work, and lets you see what steps are completed and what steps remain to be completed. While workflows help you perform all the steps without missing anything, it helps organizations onboard the mobile workforce quickly. Workflows also provide a new kind of audit for dispatchers and managers; they can easily identify how mobile workers are moving through their activities. Workflows are supported for all type of activities, for example, regular activities, mass and repeating activities, segmentable activities, and team work.

Note: You cannot change the workflow after a resource starts an activity.
Workflows help organizations enforce compliance in various ways. For example:
  • Your corporate compliance requires the mandatory completion of a form. Forms dealing with COVID19 are a great example of this type of compliance.
  • Safety compliance requires you to fill in a security or safety form before starting an activity.

How does a Workflow Work?

Oracle Field Service calculates the activity workflows dynamically, based on the workflow conditions that are defined on the Workflow Manager page. A workflow is displayed on a panel on the Activity Details page. You must click the steps available in the workflow panel, enter applicable data, and submit the steps.

Workflows for Segmentable Activities

All segments of a segmentable activity must be associated with a single workflow. It's not possible to associate different segments with different workflows. The segments inherit the workflow from the master activity.
