Resource Types

Resource Types form the basis for building the organization structure within Oracle Field Service. When you create resource types such as organization unit, bucket, and mobile worker, and then add resources, you can see the hierarchy in the resource tree. If the country or state in which your organization operates is divided into zones and territories, you can create the resource types accordingly.

A resource type helps you identify these differences:

  • Account for cost differences between full time employees and contractors.

  • Identify the resources that you want to track using geolocation.

  • Manage quota and capacity for resources.

  • Distinguish between team holder and team member.

  • Share a resource’s inventory and work skills in a team.

  • Choose the warehouse from which mobile workers can use inventory.

You can create different resource types to differentiate the hierarchy of the Resource Tree. While creating a resource type, each resource type is assigned to a role. The roles (Field Resource, Vehicle, Tool, Bucket, Organization Unit and Warehouse) enable you to differentiate the hierarchy of the Resource Tree. Each role is represented with the icons, Blue, Yellow, or Grey.

By default, the Load Threshold section displays (unless the Organization Unit role is selected) on the Add Resource Type dialog box and has the following options to determine how the icons display on the resource tree based on the resource’s load (full, normal, or empty load):
  • Number of Activities: Defined amount of activities, over which a resource is considered to have full load and below which is considered an empty load.

  • Hours: Defined amount of hours including travel, over which a resource is considered to have full load and below which is considered an empty load.

  • Time Percent: Defined percent of a resource’s work schedule for the day that includes activities and travels among them that's considered to be full, normal or empty. Travel time to and from work for the day isn't included in these calculations.

Note: Specify the number of activities, hours, percentages in the Full Load or Empty fields. The display of icons on the resource tree depends on the specified values. For example, if 10 activities represent Full load, then the Blue icon displays.
