Manage Person Types
While managing person types is an optional task for setting up Oracle Fusion Field Service, selecting a person type is a required parameter when creating new users, and therefore a brief explanation of what a person type means is warranted. In general, a person type identifies some group of people within your organization commonly used for reporting, for example, differentiating employees versus contractors.
While others can be created in HCM, there are three System Person Types supported by default:
- Employee: This person type can cover various employee types or statuses.
- Not Managed by HR: This person type is for a person that isn't managed by HCM; non-workers that can participate in some company activities (for example, for badging or application system integration purposes).
- Contingent worker: This person type is potentially for contractual workers; if a customer uses HCM with both employees and contingent workers, then they still need to create the resource in Oracle Fusion Field Service as a regular worker, ensuring they select the appropriate HCM person type for the user.
System Person Types can't be changed, but each system person type can have different Assignment Person Types that can be created and associated with users. For example, if your organization refers to its employees as Associates, then you could create an Assignment Person Type with that wording. You could further differentiate them by creating more Assignment Person Types such as, Consultant or Seasonal.
For more information about how person types are used, see the Person Types topic of the Implementing Global Human Resources guide for details.
