Scheduling Maintenance

By default, Financial Consolidation and Close automatically performs daily maintenance starting at midnight local time. During the nightly maintenance window, the system performs backups, applies any patches, recycles the application, and so on. If you prefer, you can schedule daily maintenance to occur at another time.

During daily maintenance, the service automatically creates a backup snapshot of data and artifacts. When daily maintenance executes, it replaces the prior backup snapshot with a new backup snapshot. You should schedule the execution of the EPM Automate Utility on a daily basis to download the backup snapshot to a local computer.

For information about daily maintenance operations and scheduling the maintenance start time for an environment, see Getting Started with Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud for Administrators.

To prevent automatic backup from failure due to scheduled jobs, EPM Cloud disallows certain scheduled jobs to start while the daily maintenance process is running.

The following jobs are prevented from starting during the daily maintenance:

  • Import Data

  • Import Metadata

  • Export Data

  • Export Metadata

  • Refresh Database

  • Restructure Cube

These jobs are prevented from starting whether they are jobs that are scheduled or jobs that are started on an ad hoc (unscheduled) basis.

For unscheduled jobs, this means that if you attempt to start a job during the daily maintenance process using the Run Now option on the Schedule Jobs page or if you submit a job from the listing page of your job definitions, the job will be prevented from starting. If the system prevents an ad hoc job from starting, an error message will display.

For example, if you view the jobs listed on the Restructure Cube page while daily maintenance is running and then you click Actions and then Submit, an error message will display and the job will not start. Similarly, if you create a Restructure Cube job on the Schedule Job page during daily maintenance and select Run Now, the system will prevent the job from starting and you'll see an error message.

If the system prevents a job from starting, the reason will be stated in the Job Details. If you've enabled email notifications for the Job Console, you'll receive an email notification when a job does not start. If you have a job that is scheduled to start during the daily maintenance process, it is recommended that you reschedule your job to start outside of the daily maintenance window. See Scheduling Jobs.
