What's the difference between the segment value security rule spreadsheets?

You can create, review, edit, and delete segment value security rules with the Manage Segment Value Security Rules spreadsheet. You can only create segment value security rules with the Create Segment Value Security Rules spreadsheet.

Use the Manage Segment Value Security Rules spreadsheet on secured value sets for which you’re creating segment value security rules for the very first time. Don't use the spreadsheet to edit or create more rules for already secured value sets whose initial rules were created using the application pages or Create Segment Value Security Rules spreadsheet. Once you use the Manage Segment Value Security Rules spreadsheet, you must continue to use it to create, edit, and delete the rules for that value set.

To open the desktop-integrated Manage Segment Value Security Rules spreadsheet, use the Manage Charts of Accounts Configurations task and select a chart of accounts.

Click Manage Data Security for the secured value set in the Value Set section on the Edit Chart of Accounts Configuration page. The spreadsheet has the following columns:

  • Policy Name

  • Policy Description

  • Segment Value Security Role Name

  • Operator

  • From Value

  • To Value

  • Tree Code

  • Tree Version

  • Policy Start Date

  • Policy End Date

  • Mark for Deletion

Since you can only create segment value security rules with the Create Segment Value Security Rules spreadsheet, you must use the application pages to maintain them. To open the desktop-integrated spreadsheet, use the Create Segment Value Security Rules in Spreadsheet task. An Instructions sheet tells you how to enter values for rules that provide access to multiple values or ranges of values. The spreadsheet has the following columns:

  • Role Name

  • Value Set

  • Tree Code

  • Values

For the differences noted, it's recommended you use the Manage Segment Value Security Rules spreadsheet to define your segment value security rules when this option is available for your given scenario.
