Example of Creating Tax Setup Using the Tax Implementation Workbook

This example shows how you can create organization-specific tax regime subscriptions and tax rules using the Tax Implementation Workbook.

Scenario: You own a single business unit in the US used in processing payables invoices. You must calculate US sales tax on these transactions. You have already created the tax regime for the US sales tax. Here's what you want to do next:

  1. Assign this business unit to the tax regime.

  2. Set up a basic tax rule.

You must first create your required foundation tax setups, including any among these:

  • Tax regimes

  • Taxes

  • Tax statuses

  • Tax jurisdictions

  • Tax rates

Creating Tax Setup

Follow these steps to create tax regime subscriptions and tax rules in the Tax Implementation Workbook:

  1. Navigate to the Manage Tax Regimes page.

  2. Click the Rapid Setup Spreadsheets button and select Download Tax Implementation Workbook.

  3. Save the Tax Implementation Workbook in your local directory.

  4. Review the details on Instructions sheet of the workbook.

  5. Use the instructions and the column help text to populate the required setups in the Manage Tax Regime Subscriptions and Tax Rules worksheets.

  6. After completing the Manage Tax Regime Subscriptions and Tax Rules worksheets, go to the Instructions sheet again.

  7. Click Generate CSV File. It performs these actions:

    • Saves the entire Tax Implementation Workbook data in a comma separated values (CSV) file.

    • Saves the CSV file into a single compressed file attachment.

  8. Save the compressed file attachment in your local directory.

  9. Click the Rapid Setup Spreadsheets button and select Upload Tax Implementation Workbook.

  10. Select the compressed file that you saved earlier.

  11. Click Open and then click Upload.

  12. Note the process ID and click the Monitor Upload and Download Processes tab.

  13. Click Refresh and ensure that the process ID completes with a Succeeded status.

    • If the status of the upload process is Succeeded, you can view your setups using the search criteria on the page.

    • If the status of the upload process isn't Succeeded, your upload has failed. Check the details in the corresponding error log, correct any file errors, and reupload the file.
