How Invoice Holds Work

The application of holds to invoices prevents invoice payments (and sometimes, creation of accounting entries).

Holds can apply automatically or manually. You can release some holds manually. For others, you must fix the exception condition before the hold is released.

You can put an invoice on hold with any of these options:

  • Void Payment button in Stop Payment Requests section on Payables Dashboard.
  • Validate button on Invoice landing page.
  • Manage Holds action from Create and Edit Invoice pages.
  • Validate action on Create and Edit Invoice pages.
  • Holds section on Invoice Details page.
  • Validate button on Manage Invoices page.
  • Void action on Manage Payments page.
  • Validate an invoice using Invoices REST API.
  • Create an invoice hold using Invoice Holds REST API.
