Enter Receivables Reclassifications

You can enter a receipt reclassification in Receivables to report corrected cash receipt classification information for Classification Transactions and Accountability (CTA) reporting. Reporting occurs when the receipt is accounted, posted to General Ledger, and cash movement is recorded.

If a receipt was reported with an incorrect TAS or BETC, correct the CTA reporting by reversing the original receipt and creating a new corrected receipt. Use the Perform CTA Reporting process to include Receivables receipt reclassifications in the CTA bulk file. To include Receivables reclassifications, set the Extract Receipt Reclassifications process parameter to Yes.

To reclassify a standard receipt:

  1. Create an invoice.
  2. Create a standard receipt and apply it to the invoice.
  3. Create accounting entries for the invoice and post the receipt.
  4. Reverse the receipt that has the incorrect TAS or BETC.

The invoice automatically reopens when a standard receipt is reversed.

  5. Create a new standard receipt with the correct TAS and BETC and apply the receipt to the invoice.
Note: The new receipt must have the same customer account, agency location code, accounting period, and amount as the reversed receipt.
  6. In Manage Receipts, open the new receipt and enter the following information:
    • From the Regional Information drop-down list, select U.S. Federal Financials.
    • From the CTA Transaction drop-down list, select Yes.
    • In the Reversed Receipt Number field, enter the reversed receipt number.
The reversed receipt must meet the following criteria:
      • The receipt has been reversed and posted.
      • The reversed receipt is in the same posting period as the new receipt.
      • The reversed receipt isn't associated with another receipt.
      • The business unit for the reversed receipt is the same as the business unit for the new receipt.
      • The agency location code (ALC) for the reversed receipt is the same as the ALC for the new receipt.
      • The remittance bank account for the reversed receipt is the same as the remittance bank account for the new receipt.
      • The reversed receipt amount is the same as the new receipt amount.
  7. Save the receipt.
  8. Create accounting entries and post the new standard receipt.
To reclassify a miscellaneous receipt:
  1. Create a miscellaneous receipt.
  2. Create accounting entries and post the receipt.
  3. Reverse the receipt (for example, if you need to correct the TAS or BETC).
  4. Create a new miscellaneous receipt with the correct TAS or BETC (or receivables activity).
  5. In Manage Receipts, open the new receipt and enter the following information:
    • From the Regional Information drop-down list, select U.S. Federal Financials.
    • From the CTA Transaction drop-down list, select Yes.
    • From the Customer Name drop-down list, select the customer name.
    • From the Customer Account drop-down list, select the customer account.
  6. Save the receipt.
  7. Create accounting entries and post the new miscellaneous receipt.
