About Rules

With appropriate access, users can launch business rules from the application. Rules can also prompt users for input when rules are launched.

To launch business rules from within data forms or independently in the application, the rules must be deployed from Calculation Manager. For optimum performance, business rules that run in forms should be designed to execute within three minutes. For rules with a longer execution time, you can schedule batch processing or run the rules during non-peak hours.

You can diagnose performance issues with business rules and pinpoint and address any issues using activity reports. Activity reports identify which business rules are taking the longest to execute. You can then open the rules in Calculation Manager, review the log, and optimize the steps within the rule to improve performance.

Viewing Business Rules - Standardized Interface

Note:

This section provides details about working with the Rules page in the default standardized interface. To learn more about the standardized interface, see About the Standardized Cloud EPM Platform Artifact Pages.

However, there are cases when the legacy artifact pages might still be in use. If you're viewing the legacy Rules page, see Viewing Business Rules - Legacy Interface.

To view the business rules in your application, on the Home page, click Rules.

Enter search criteria and the search results will display in a drop-down under the Search box. Click Enter to view the search results in the list region. Search results list all instances of rules that include the search criteria.

Filter chips display the search criteria that is entered in the Search box. Filter chips can be selected or removed to quickly filter information without changing the current view. For rules, we've provided an out-of-the-box filter chip called Type which filters rules by type. Click the Type filter chip and select Rules, Rulesets, Templates, or select all three options.

Clicking the name of a rule opens the rule in Calculation Manager within a new tab.

Click System View to display the default view when you launch Calculation Manager. Calculation Manager displays in a new tab and it lists all the applications and objects to which you have access. See Viewing Objects in Calculation Manager in Designing with Calculation Manager.

If you select an object in the list region of the Rules page, the (global) Actions menu displays, and you can select System View or you can assign permissions to the selected objects.

Each rules line item also has an item-specific Actions menu which includes the following options:

  • Edit: Open the rule in Calculation Manager within a new tab.

  • Launch: Run the rule.

  • Assign Permissions: Assign access permissions to the rule.

Viewing Business Rules - Legacy Interface

Note:

This section provides details about working with the Rules page in the legacy interface. Starting with the October 2025 (25.10) update, Oracle plans to de-support legacy artifact pages. For all new and existing environments, the Legacy List Pages application setting will be removed and the Rules page will only render as standardized.

To view the business rules in your application, on the Home page, click Rules.

You can filter the rules by Cube and by Rule Type. Click Filter icon (Filter) to select filter criteria.

To assign permissions to a rule, click Permission icon (Permission) next to the rule.

To run a rule, click Launch icon (Launch) next to the rule.
