Considerations for Defining the Slice for Insights and Predictions

You can generate insights and predictions for Dynamic Calc parent and leaf members.

This feature allows you to view insights and predict values at the parent level or any level in the hierarchy.

  • Rather than having to sort through too many leaf level-insights, you can focus your analysis on parent-level or any level insights.
  • Generating insights and predictions at the parent level improves accuracy, especially when data is missing or not accurate in lower levels of the hierarchy.
  • Prediction accuracy is improved, because rather than predicted data getting aggregated at the parent level, the parent level is also predicted.

For example, predicting for overall Operating Expenses might be better than predicting each of the expense categories under Operating Expenses such as Travel, Entertainment, and Staff Welfare, because the child member data could be sparse.

Generating Insights for Dynamic Calc Members

To generate insights for Dynamic Calc members for Forecast Variance & Bias and Anomaly insights, simply include the Dynamic Calc members in the insight slice definition.

Generating Prediction insights for Dynamic Calc members requires you to specify a slice definition that includes members in Scenario, Version, Plan Element or relevant dimensions associated with the UDA HSP_DYN_PREDICT.

To generate Prediction insights for Dynamic Calc members:

  1. Associate the UDA HSP_DYN_PREDICT with the Scenario/Version/Plan Element or similar dimension used to store predicted values. (This step is not needed for Forecast Variance & Bias insights and Anomaly insights.)
  2. If you associated the UDA HSP_DYN_PREDICT with dimensions other Scenario or Version, update the Predictive Planning application settings:

From the Home page, click Application and then click Settings. In the Predictive Planning section, update the POV to include the members from the other dimensions that are associated with the UDA HSP_DYN_PREDICT.

    Note:

The Source Cube option defines the cube where historical actuals are stored. Members selected for Source Cube should not be associated with the UDA HSP_DYN_PREDICT.

  3. Include the Dynamic Calc members in the Insight slice definition. Make sure to include only values with the UDA HSP_DYN_PREDICT in the slice definition.

Generating Predictions at the Parent Level and Loading the Form with Predicted Values

Because predicted values can't be stored for Dynamic Calc members, you can specify to generate predictions at the parent level at run time and load the form with predicted values, by using a form option and by associating members in Scenario, Version, Plan Element, or relevant dimensions associated with the UDA HSP_DYN_PREDICT. You can review predicted results in a web form, a dashboard, or in Oracle Smart View for Office. Planners can use Predictive Planning on the form to see explainability for the parent level predicted values.

To generate predictions at the parent level at run time and load the form with predicted values:

  1. Associate the UDA HSP_DYN_PREDICT with the Scenario/Version/Plan Element or similar dimension that is used to stored predicted values. Any members associated with this UDA will display predicted values rather than aggregated values.

  3. Use the Form Designer to specify whether to perform a prediction when the form loads. In the Form Designer, in the Prediction Options settings, select Prediction for Dynamic Calc. A validation confirms that the HSP_DYN_PREDICT UDA is associated with the members on the form.

Note:

  • This feature is supported only for Dynamic Calc members; it is not supported for Dynamic Calc and Store members.
  • Dynamic Calc parent level values can't be stored or exported.
  • You can use a Groovy script to allocate the Dynamic Calc parent-level predicted values to level zero members.
  • Associate the UDA HSP_DYN_PREDICT only with Scenario/Version/Plan Element or similar sparse dimension members.
  • If predicting values for Dynamic Calc parent members at runtime would make loading the form take too long, the prediction is not run and an error message displays.
  • Generating predictions for Dynamic Calc parent members is not supported in ad hoc grids.
  • When you generate predictions at run time and load a form with predicted values, the predictions for Dynamic Calc members always use the default prediction options for the form. Any modifications you make to the prediction options (in the prediction results area, click Settings) are not reflected in the predicted values for Dynamic Calc members when you load the form.
