Loading the Metadata Import File

To load the metadata import file, you create an Import Metadata job.

To create an Import Metadata job:

  1. Create a metadata import file for each artifact (dimensions, smart lists, and exchange rate tables) that you want to import.

See Creating a Metadata Import File.

  2. From the Home page, click Application, and then click Jobs.

  3. Click the Import Export tab at the bottom of the Jobs console.

  4. On the Import Export tab, click Create Job.

  5. In Job Type, click the drop-down and select Import Metadata.

  6. In Job Details, enter the following information:

    Table 6-5 Import Metadata Options

    Import Metadata Option Description

    Name

Name of the Import Metadata job.

    Location

Select the location of the metadata import file:

    • Local: Imports the metadata import file from a location on your computer.

    • Inbox: Imports the metadata import file from the server.

If you select Inbox, specify an Error File ro review the data that was rejected during the data import job, This file will provide information about the data records that were not imported. If an error zip file is specified, the zip file is stored in the Outbox where you can download the file using Inbox/Outbox Explorer.

See Uploading and Downloading Files Using the Inbox/Outbox Explorer.

Note: Valid data import file types are .csv, .txt, or .zip.

    Refresh Database

Select to refresh the database if the metadata is imported successfully.

  7. Select the dimensions to be included in the metadata import.

  8. For each dimension selected, click Actions icon, and enter the following information:

    Table 6-6 Import Metadata Options

    Import Metadata Option Description

    Import File

Enter or select the import file:

    • If you selected Local for the location, click Source File to navigate to and select the source file.

    • If you selected Inbox for the location, enter the name of the file in Source File.

Clear Members / Clear Shared Members

Select a clear option to delete members not explicitly specified in the load file before performing the import:

Clear Members: Deletes all members not explicitly specified in the load file

Clear Shared Members: Deletes only the shared members not explicitly specified in the load file

    Note:

    • Any member not specified is deleted from the application outline after importing the dimension unless it's an ancestor of a member that was specified, or it's a base member of a shared member that was specified.

    • If a clear option isn't selected, the import will only add or update existing members. Oracle recommends first loading the metadata file without selecting a clear option to make sure the file loads successfully. Then, select a clear option and execute the import again

    • The clear options are unavailable in certain dimensions where members must exist and are critical to the application. Currently, these dimensions are Currency, Period, Scenario, Version, and Years.

    • Members that can't be deleted in the dimension editor for any reason (for example, because they're used in a form or in a validation rule) won't be deleted.

    • Because selecting Clear Members automatically deletes all members not specified in the load file (and this includes shared members), selecting Clear Members also automatically selects the Clear Shared Members option. You cannot deselect the Clear Shared Members option if the Clear Members option is selected.

    File Type

    Choose a file type:

    • Comma delimited

    • Tab delimited

    • Other

If Other is selected, enter the delimiter character that is used in the import file. For a list of supported delimiter characters and exceptions, see Other Supported Delimiter Characters.

  9. Click Save to return to the Create Job page.

  10. If you selected Local for the import data file location, click Import to select the file to import, and then click Validate to test whether the import file format is correct.

  11. Click Save to save the job details.

  12. Return to the Import/Export tab to view the Import Metadata job.
