What are AI agents?

AI agents are software entities within agentic AI systems that run tasks autonomously, use tools, and interact with enterprise applications to achieve defined goals. They can analyze inputs, determine the next steps, and take actions across business processes with minimal user intervention.

AI agents can also collaborate with other agents or systems to complete complex sequences of tasks. Examples include assistants that automate business tasks, coordinate multi step processes, retrieve and update enterprise data, and take actions such as creating requests, generating reports, or triggering approvals.
