Geography Structures

A geography structure is a hierarchical grouping of geography types for a country.

This table describes the recommended geography structure for China:

Manage Geography Lookups

To manage geography lookups, do these steps:

  1. In the Setup and Maintenance work area, click the Tasks pane and select Search.

  2. On the Search page, search for and select the Define Geographies for Human Capital Management task.

  3. In the Define Geographies for Human Capital Management task list, click the Manage Geography Lookups task.

  4. On the Manage Geography Lookups page, click HZ_GEO_IDENTIFIER_SUBTYPE.

  5. In the Lookup Codes section, add the CN_BJ_CODE and CN_GEO_CODE codes as shown in this table:

    The geography code from the Chinese recommended national standard document 2260, which is issued by the Standardization Administration of China.

  6. Click Save and Close.

Import Country Structure

To import country structure, do these steps:

  1. Review the country structure data in the CN_GeoStructureInterface.csv file, which is available for download in the Document ID 1466218.1 on My Oracle Support, and make the required changes.

  2. From the Navigator, under Tools, click Import Management, which opens the Manage Imports page.

  3. Click the Create Import Activity button, which opens the Create Import Activity page.

  4. In the Name field, specify a name for the import activity.

  5. Form the Object drop-down list, select Country Structure.

  6. Click the Browse button beside the File Name field to upload the CN_GeoStructureInterface.csv file.

  7. From the Date Format drop-down list, select US - MM/DD/YYYY.

  8. From the File Encoding drop-down list, select Unicode - UTF-8.

  9. Click Next.

  10. On the Map Fields page, the mapping is done automatically by the application. Review the mapping information on this page and click Next.

  11. On the Review the Submit page, click Submit to start the import process.

  12. The search results should display as follows:

  13. Select the check mark under the Structure Defined column to view its structure.

Import Geography Data

To import geography data, do these steps:

  1. Review the country geography data in the CN_GeographyInterface.csv file, which is available for download in the Document ID 1466218.1 on My Oracle Support, and make the required changes.

  2. From the Navigator, under Tools, click Import Management, which opens the Manage Imports page.

  3. Click the Create Import Activity button, which opens the Create Import Activity page.

  4. In the Name field, specify a name for the import activity.

  5. Form the Object drop-down list, select Geography.

  6. Click the Browse button beside the File Name field to upload the CN_GeographyInterface.csv file.

  7. From the Date Format drop-down list, select the appropriate date format to match the format in your uploaded file. Let's say, if your uploaded file has the date format as MM/DD/YYYY, then select US - MM/DD/YYYY from the Data Format menu.

  8. From the File Encoding drop-down list, select the appropriate value to match the character set you used while preparing the geographical values. The default value is Unicode - UTF-8. If you've included the geographical values in Simplified Chinese and you've set them up in local character set, then select the Chinese Simplified - GB, CP936 value instead.

  9. Click Next.

  10. On the Map Fields page, the mapping is done automatically by the application. Review the mapping information on this page and click Next.

  11. On the Review the Submit page, click Submit to start the import process.

  12. The search results should display as follows:

  13. Select the check mark under the Hierarchy Defined column to view its hierarchy.

Manage Geography Validation

To manage geography validations, do these steps:

  1. In the Setup and Maintenance work area, click the Tasks pane and selectSearch.

  2. On the Search page, search for and select the Manage Geographies task.

  3. On the Manage Geographies page, in the Country Name field, enter China and click Search.

  4. Click the check mark in the Validation Defined column.

  5. In the Geography Mapping and Validation section, select these mapping options:

  6. In the Geography Validation Control section, from the Geography Validation Level for Country drop-down list, select a value.

  7. Click Save.
