How to Calculate the Number of Pay Days in a Pay Period

You can calculate the number of pay days within a date range based on the assigned work schedule for an employee using the following criteria:

  • Work days on work patterns

  • Public holidays

  • Resource exception definitions

The returned number includes both scheduled work days and public holidays within the date range.

To specify the base function, for calculating the number of pay days within a date range, follow the steps below:

  1. In the Payroll Calculation work area, click Manage Fast Formulas task

  2. In Manage Fast Formulas user interface, click Create to create a formula.

  3. In the Create Fast Formula popup, specify the formula name, type and description

Example: If April 29 and 30 are work days on a work pattern, May 1 is a public holiday. May 2 and 3 are resource exception definitions as off period. If a person’s last working day is May 3, then for May pay period, which is from May 1 through 31, the no. of pay days for the employee is 1.
