Withdrawing from the Teachers’ Pension Scheme

Teachers’ Pension requires the Withdrawal Confirmation indicator (data item 23) for the scenarios shown here.

You must follow the steps described to trigger the withdrawal indicator and for accurate calculation of the member’s contributions:

Scenario User action Comment
Change of Establishment Number, for example, member moves from:
  • One LA maintained school to another (same LA)
  • One academy to another (same MAT)
 End existing assignment and create new assignment with new Establishment Number to generate an A line with the Withdrawal Confirmation for the selected assignment.

If this was not notified until after the MCR was run, retrospectively end existing assignment and create new assignment with new Establishment Number to generate a U line with the Withdrawal Confirmation for the selected assignment.

 Do not make date effective change to the existing Establishment Number; this will not trigger a Withdrawal Confirmation.
Change of job role within same or different contract (change of Role ID, either Type 1 or Type 2)

End existing assignment, create new assignment with new Role ID to generate an A line with the Withdrawal Confirmation for the selected assignment.

If this was not notified until after the MCR was run, retrospectively end existing assignment, create new assignment with new Role ID to generate a U line with the Withdrawal Confirmation for the selected assignment.

If they have moved from one establishment to another, you can re-use existing Role ID on new assignment depending on contractual arrangement.

 Do not make date effective change to the existing Role ID; this will not trigger a Withdrawal Confirmation.
One of several jobs (assignments) is ending; others still exist.

End the assignment to generate an A line with the Withdrawal Confirmation for the selected assignment.

If this was not notified until after the MCR was run, retrospectively end assignment to generate a U line with the Withdrawal Confirmation for the selected assignment.

Terminate the work relationship to generate an A line with the Withdrawal Confirmation for all assignments in the work relationship.
