Workforce Structures Enterprise-Level Configuration

Let's look at the different configuration options for workforce structures and the minimum search characters configuration for each workforce structure at the enterprise-level.

Workforce Structure Configuration Options

You can configure workforce structure-related options at the enterprise level using the Manage Enterprise HCM Information task in the Setup and Maintenance work area. This table provides the description and default value for each option.

Option Description Default Value
Default Effective Start Date You can default the effective start date when creating workforce structure objects such as position, job, location and so on in responsive and classic pages. None
Default Location Country

You can default a country for the location at the enterprise level. This defaults the selected country under the country field (Main Address) from Location Details (Add) Quick Actions.

If the country value is not defaulted at Enterprise setup then the default country is United States

Default Evaluation System You can set a default evaluation system at the enterprise level which would default the specified evaluation system for both job and position None
Guided Flows: Future-Dated Records Validation

You can use this option to control whether users can update work structures with future-dated records using the self-service work structure related pages. You can select from these values:

  • None: No validation is displayed.
  • Error: An error message is displayed indicating that the work structure has a future-dated record, and the user is prevented from updating the work structure.
  • Warning: A warning message is displayed indicating that the work structure has a future-dated record. The user can choose to ignore the message and continue with the transaction.

Initial Position Code

You can specify the initial position for your enterprise when you generate the code automatically.

The application uses this number for the first record that you create using the automatic position code setting and increments the number by one for subsequent records. By default, the initial code is 1.

You can specify the initial job for your enterprise when you generate the code automatically.

The application uses this number for the first record that you create using the automatic job code setting and increments the number by one for subsequent records. By default, the initial code is 1.

Job Code Generation Method

You can generate a code for job workforce structure. Use the Manage Enterprise HCM Information task in the Workforce Structures work area to configure the code generation method for jobs for your enterprise.

You can generate the job code in one of these 3 ways:

  • Manually
  • Automatically prior to submission
  • Automatically upon final save

Position Code Generation Method

You can generate a code for position workforce structure. Use the Manage Enterprise HCM Information task in the Workforce Structures work area to configure the code generation method for positions for your enterprise.

You can generate the position code in one of these 3 ways:

  • Manually
  • Automatically prior to submission
  • Automatically upon final save

Minimum Search Characters

You can define the minimum number of characters to search for workforce structure objects using the Manage Enterprise HCM Information task in the Setup and Maintenance work area.

The minimum search characters are used to search for the name and code for each search page depending on the number of objects. For performance reasons, the minimum value is 1.

Note: If your organization has a detailed department structure with a large number of departments, it's recommended that you use 3 characters to search for departments. But, if you have a few departments, then you can set the value to 1 character to make the search easier.

Effective Start Date Defaults

You can set the default effective start date for workforce structure objects in responsive and classic pages using the Manage Enterprise HCM Information task in the Setup and Maintenance work area.

This table lists the behavior of the effective date on responsive and classic pages in certain scenarios.
