Certain groups of people can work in different departments during their shifts and you
want to track the time they work in each department. So you create a dependent Department cost
segment field for the independent Payroll Time Type attribute.
The cost segment was created as part of the Global Payroll setup.

In the General Properties section, click the Create
icon.

On the Create Dependent Time Card Field dialog box, complete these steps:
- In the Name field, enter Department.
- In the Independent Time Attribute field, select Payroll Time
Type.

In the Dependent Time Attribute field, click
Search.
- On the Search and Select: Time Attributes dialog box, in the Name field,
enter Depart. The default search results level is
General, which is what you want for this attribute.
- In the search results section, Cost costing collection, select
Department.
- Click OK.
- On the Create Dependent Time Card Field dialog box, in the Description field,
enter Department where the time was worked.
- In the Availability section, select For all independent time
attribute values.
- On the Warning dialog box with the message that the dependent field always
appears on the time card with the independent attribute, click
Yes.
- On the Create Dependent Time Card Field dialog box, click
OK.

Define the data sources.
- On the Create Time Card Field: Dependent Field Definition page, in the
Filtered Data Source for Time Entry field, select the first source. This data
source doesn't have any filters to add.
- In the Unfiltered Data Source for Setup Tasks field, select the first
source.

Define the display properties.
- In the Display Type field, select Smart choice
list.
- Select the Enable override on layouts option.
- In the Required on the Time Card field, select No.

Click Next to open the Review page.
