Example of Manually Adding a Geography for the US

The Load Geographies flow imports the jurisdiction codes provided by third-party sources like Vertex. You must run this process periodically to uptake any geocode changes being delivered by your provider.

However, in extremely rare cases where you require a geography not supported or delivered by your provider, you must define it manually, such as a new or missing city, county, or ZIP Code.

For example, to manually add a new city:

  1. Start the Geographies task from your implementation project.

  2. Perform a search with United States as the country name.

  3. Select United States in the search results.

  4. Select Manage Geography Hierarchy from the Actions menu.

  5. Navigate the hierarchy down to the county level, and verify that the city is missing.

  6. Select the county row, and click Create.

  7. In the blank row in Primary and Alternative Names, enter the following.
