File-Based Address Validation

Use the File-Based Address Validation flow to validate multiple employee addresses after you've modified them.

This flow does three things.

  1. It validates the addresses for payroll and tax purposes.

    • Validates line 1 of the addresses

    • Formats the addresses to USPS standards

    • Adds additional or missing address attributes

  2. It produces a report of these recommendations in output suitable for viewing in a spreadsheet application, such as Microsoft Excel.

    For invalid addresses, this file provides suggested alternates, including:

    • Payroll tax jurisdiction info

    • School districts and Political Subdivisions (PSDs) for Pennsylvania jurisdictions

      These columns display as null for non-Pennsylvania jurisdictions.

  3. If the flow finds any missing Geocodes, such as invalid state-county or state-county-city combinations, it automatically adds them to the TCA or localization tables. For further info, see Geographies for the US in the Help Center.

To run this report:

  1. From My Client Groups, click Payroll.

  2. Click Submit a Flow.

  3. Select your US legislative data group

  4. Search for and select File-Based Address Validation.

Before You Start

You must have prepared an input file in CSV format with the following columns.

  • StreetAddress1

  • City

  • State

  • County

  • ZIP Code

  • Additional Details

    Use this column to provide notes to help you track this info. The flow doesn't transfer any of this content into the application.

Report Parameters

Upload File

Click this button to select and upload your CSV file.

Content ID

After you select and upload your CSV file, this field automatically displays your UCM ID.

Process Configuration Group

Select a process configuration group if needed.

Report Output

This flow produces an output file suitable for viewing in a spreadsheet application, such as Microsoft Excel. Use this file to identify invalid address combinations, so you can correct them.

Note: If there are many corrections, consider building an HCM Data Loader file to upload the changes, rather than making individual edits.

Employee Address

This section describes the address data you input into the flow. It includes these columns.

  • Address Line1

    There is no support for Address Line 2 or 3.

  • City

  • County

  • State

  • ZIP Code

  • Additional Details

    This is the additional info you provided in the upload file.

Validation Details

This section provides the address data after it has been verified and corrected. It includes these columns.

  • Address Line1

  • City

  • State

  • ZIP Code + 4

  • PSD Code

    This column is null for addresses outside Pennsylvania.

  • School District

    Displays as “Out of state” for addresses outside Pennsylvania.
  • School District Name

    Displays as “Out of state” for addresses outside Pennsylvania.

  • Jurisdiction Name

  • Geocode

  • Status Code and Status Message

    Represents any error codes and details detected by the Vertex Cloud Payroll Tax engine. For further info, see Address Cleansing in Vertex Cloud Payroll Tax.
