Assignment Status and Payroll Processing
An employee's assignment status includes an HR status, a payroll status, and optionally user statuses.
The application links the HR status and payroll status values to the assignment status and sets them automatically when the assignment status changes. The payroll status controls when the payroll process includes the assignment in the payroll calculation.
This table summarizes the values of the statuses.

Process When Earning indicates payroll processes only during payroll periods with earnings. Use this status in countries with cumulative tax rules, to stop tax refunds when payments aren't issued.
-
Process Nonrecurring Element Entry indicates the process includes only the active element entry for the nonrecurring elements. Use this status for one-time payments for terminated employees.
Assignment Status
You can set the default assignment status for an employment-related action so that the assignment status changes automatically when you initiate an action. The action type categorizes the assignment status change. For example, you can set the default assignment status to 'Process When Earning' when you perform a terminate work relationship action. This ensures that the payroll run includes only terminated employees with an earnings element entry.
To create your own assignment status, use the Assignment Statuses quick action in My Client Groups > Workforce Structures on the Home page.
