Dos and Don’ts for Assigning and Changing Rates-Based Salary
After you assign workers a rates-based salary basis, you shouldn’t make intrusive changes to the rate definitions or component configurations. Instead, create other definitions or salary bases with the new rate component configurations.
Examples of intrusive changes:
- Adding or removing rates from the salary basis
- End dating rate definitions
- Adding, removing, or changing contributing rates
Here’s the best practice method for handling changes to rates-based worker salaries:
- Create other rate definitions or another salary basis with the new rate components configuration.
- Assign the new salary basis to workers effective as of the change date.
- Inactivate the old salary basis, so that it’s no longer used.
