Allow an Interview to Be Exited

Sometimes it can be useful for a user to be able to exit an interview and return to where they originally came from. This is particularly helpful when using Intelligent Advisor in the context of another application. An exit button can be added to every screen or to select screens in an interview.

Note: Adding an exit button to an interview will also add an exit button to the session expired banner when an interview has timed out.

To add the exit button to an interview:

  1. On the Interview tab, click the Styles button.
  2. In the Styles dialog box, select the Styling tab.
  3. In the Controls section, select the text No Restart/Exit.
  4. In the drop-down window:
    1. Select the Include exit button check box.
    2. Click in the Exit button hyperlink URL field, and enter the URL that you want the button to link to. Note that:
      • Substitutions are supported in the URL text. This enables you to use the value of a non-Boolean global attribute as part of the URL. For example, you could use an exit URL of http://www.myhomepage.com/%home_country%/ where the attribute 'the applicant's home country' has an attribute name of 'home_country'. If, during the interview, the interview user selects 'Argentina' as the home county, the exit URL would point to http://www.myhomepage.com/Argentina/. For more information, see Show Attribute Values On Screens. An exit URL containing a substitution will be URL encoded.
      • URLs must either start with a protocol (for example, http://) or with a substitution (for example, %targetURL%). Where an exit URL starts with "%" it is presumed to already be encoded and is just output as is.
    3. In the drop-down menu, choose the option that defines the browser behavior when the interview is exited.
      • Select Self if you would like the redirected URL to be loaded inside the current frame. That is, just the Intelligent Advisor interview is replaced on the page with the redirected website. This is the default behavior.
      • Select Parent if you want to replace both the embedded Intelligent Advisor interview and the frame that embeds it. This will ensure the other frames on the page are unaffected.
      • Select Top if you want to replace everything on the current page. This includes the embedded interview and all other content surround it.

Note that redirection targets only apply to Latest Version interviews embedded in iframes. Redirection targets do not apply to agent interviews in B2C Service.

  5. Click OK. The exit button is added to the bottom left of every screen in the interview.

The exit button can be removed from individual screens. For more information, see Configure the Restart and Exit Buttons.

If a checkpoint is created when the user clicks exit, the checkpoint will resume on the screen the exit button was clicked on.

If a server side error (for example, an error event) is triggered when clicking an exit button, the user will be prevented from leaving that screen until the error is resolved.

If a non-server side error (for example, a missing value, an invalid format, and so on) is triggered when clicking an exit button, then the user will be able to exit, but any invalid values will not be included in the checkpoint.

The appearance of the exit button can be changed. For more information, see:
