Add a Signature Control
To add a signature control to an interview screen:
- In Policy Modeling on the Interview tab, open the screen where you want to add the signature control.
- Click the New Control button and select Signature from the drop-down list.

A new signature control is added to the screen list, and a corresponding signature control added to the screen layout view. The new signature control is created with the default text "Please sign your name:". - (Optional) Edit the default text as required. Click on the text to select it for editing. The updated text will be reflected in both the screen layout view and the screens list.

Signature fields, also like other input controls, are enabled by default. To make a signature control read-only, follow the steps in Make a question read-only or enabled (but select the signature control instead of the input control in step 1).
Signatures, like other input controls, are mandatory by default. To make a signature control optional, follow the steps in Make a Question Optional Or Mandatory (but select the signature control instead of the input control in step 1).
Note that for signatures to be accessible, you should provide an alternative way for the end user to sign. For example, a checkbox as an alternative method to affirm the signature, or a text box that they can enter their name into as an alternative. If you want to ensure some form of signature is collected, you can then make the signature control conditionally mandatory based on whether the alternative form has a value or not.
During a web-based interview, when the interview user hovers over the signature control on the screen they will see a cursor pointing out the mouse position on the screen. They can then hold down the mouse button, and draw their signature.
In a mobile browser interview, the user can draw their signature in the field provided using touch.
If the interview user wishes to redo the signature, they can do so by clicking the Clear button.
The signature is included as an image in the session data (so if a session is saved and later reloaded, the signature image is shown in the interview).
Note: Signature controls cannot be added to entity containers for inferred entities.
