Check Screen and Control Appearance and Behavior
As you move through an interview in the Debugger, you should check that:
- there are no automatic screens. If an attribute that needs an answer (that is, it is relevant to the goals of the interview) is not defined on a screen, then the attribute will be displayed on an automatic screen in the interview. These screens are easily identified in the left hand pane of the Interview view in the Debugger by a warning icon.

- the layout of each screen is as intended
- screens and controls are shown or hidden/skipped as expected. For more information, see Investigate the Display of Screens and Controls.
- inputs are optional or mandatory as appropriate. Mandatory questions are displayed with a red asterisk on the interview screen. The Details view for an input indicates whether it is required or optional.

- inputs are read-only or enabled as appropriate. The Details view for an input indicates whether it is ever read-only.
- any hint text is appearing
- any restricted inputs are working as expected
- input lists have been populated from external sources where appropriate
- any errors and warnings rules are firing as expected
