Create a Synonym for a Non-Boolean Attribute

You can define synonyms for non-Boolean attributes in your Word rules to make rules more succinct. To create a synonym for a non-Boolean attribute in Word:

  1. Put the cursor on a new blank line in your rule document. Type the synonym using the following syntax: <synonym text> is <non-Boolean attribute text>.
  2. Click Alt+L to apply the OPM - legend style. Alternatively, this style can be applied using the Styles menu on the Home tab.

Thereafter in your rules document you can refer to the non-Boolean attribute using just the synonym text.

For example:

a is the cost of school fees

b is the cost of school uniforms

c is the cost of school excursions

the total school cost = a + b + c
