Before You Begin
This 15-minute tutorial shows you how to configure the Oracle Internet of Things (IoT) Fleet Monitoring Cloud Service application and get started as a fleet manager.
This is the first tutorial in Quick Start Tutorials for the Oracle IoT Fleet Monitoring Cloud Service Application. Read the tutorials sequentially.

Background
Vision Corporation, a tablets and smartphones manufacturer, wants to optimize the supply chain management of its display pickers, glue dispensers, and display mounters. The company is using a new type of glue that will avoid temperature fluctuations and improve the reliability of displays.
To avoid production delays, the company implemented an Oracle IoT Fleet Monitoring Cloud Service application so that it can track glue shipments from the warehouse to the factory. The application is configured to generate alerts (vehicle departure and speed), trigger incidents (vehicle breakdown), and display vehicle status.
In this tutorial, you configure the Oracle IoT Fleet Monitoring Cloud Service application to track the trips and drivers. You use a simulator application that creates a simulated vehicle and generates its data.
What Do You Need?
Create a Geofence
- Use your fleet manager credentials to sign in to your instance of the Oracle IoT Fleet Monitoring Cloud Service application.
- Click Menu
, click Configuration, and then click the Geofence
tab.
- On the Geofences page, click Create New Geofence
.
- On the Create New Geofence page, in the Details section, click the Name field, and enter
WarehouseSantaClara.
- Click Map
. and then in the Search text box, enter
4220 Network Circle,95054.
- To draw a geo-boundary on the location, click Draw
.
- To create a starting point, click a location on the map, drag your mouse to define a boundary, and then click to end the boundary.
- Click the smaller point that appears in between the two points, drag your mouse, and then click to define another boundary.
- Repeat the previous step to form a polygon that defines the geo-boundary of the place.

Configure Vehicle Data in the Simulator
In this section, you create a simulation model into the Oracle IoT Digital Twin Simulator application. The application simulates a vehicle that generates on-board device data, and then sends the data to the Oracle IoT Fleet Monitoring Cloud Service application.
- Sign in to the Oracle IoT Digital Twin Simulator application at
https://your Oracle IoT Cloud Service instance name/ds.
- On the Simulations page, click Create a Simulation Model
.
- On the Select an option page, click Truck, and on the Import Result page, click OK.
- On the Simulations page, click Truck.
- On the Truck page, click Create New Device
.
- On the Create Devices page, click Create.
- On the Truck page, in the row of the device data, click View
.
- On the Device Status page, in the CONTROLS section, select the vehicle's start location as 4210 Network Cir Santa Clara. In the DEVICE MONITORING section, click the STATUS ON/OFF button to enable display of the status.
Create a Vehicle Type
In this section, you add a device model to the application and then create a vehicle type that is based on the device model. A vehicle type is used to group vehicles with similar attributes. Grouping vehicles with similar attributes can simplify performance management.
- Sign in to your instance of Oracle IoT Cloud Service.
- Click Menu
and then click Applications.
- Select the Oracle IoT Fleet Monitoring Cloud Service application.
- Click Device Model.
- Click Choose Device Model
.
- Select the ora_obd2_device_model device model and click Done.
- Sign in to your instance of Oracle IoT Fleet Monitoring Cloud Service.
- Click Menu
, and then click Configuration.
- Click the Vehicle Type
tab.
- Click Create New Vehicle Type
.
- On the Create New Vehicle Type page, in the Details section, enter or select the following values:
Name: KenworthVehicleType
Make: Kenworth
Model: T680
Year: 2017.
- In the Sensor Attributes section, select all the pre-defined sensor attributes, click Select Device Model, select ora-obd2-device_model, and then click Select.
- Click Save and then Back.
Register a Vehicle
In this section, you register a simulated vehicle that is created by the Oracle IoT Digital Twin Simulator application.
- Click Menu
, and then click Configuration.
- On the Configuration: Settings page, click the Upload tab
.
- On the Configuration: CSV Data page, in the Vehicle section, click Upload.
- On the Upload: Vehicle CSV Data page, click Choose File, browse to the folder where you saved the
vehicle-sample.csv
file, select it, click Open, and then click Upload. - Click Go to Vehicle Listing and verify that your vehicle is listed and then click Back.
- Click Menu
, and then click Fleet.
- Click the Vehicles
tab. From the Vehicles list, select Kenworth-T680 and click Edit
