Scheduling site map updates

You can schedule how frequently you want to update your site map. By default this occurs once weekly at 01:00 Eastern Time (GMT - 05:00). Keeping the site map up to date is important to maintain accurate page tagging. If you make frequent changes to your site, update the schedule so that it runs more frequently.

When Oracle Eloqua crawls your site, every page that has been visited since the last crawl is added to the site map. If a page was not visited, it is removed from the site map. Learn more about troubleshooting pages that are missing from your site map.

Before you begin:

  • You can manually update the site map and delete old pages from the map.
  • You can use the web crawler to build a site map of pages that have not yet been visited.

To set the site map update frequency:

  1. Navigate to Assets An image of the Assets icon, which is represented by a black pencil. > Website Setup, then click Tracking.
  2. Click Update Site Map An image of the update site map icon..

An image of the Update Site Map window.

  3. Select the check box and choose when you want to update the site map. The crawl is always performed at 01:00 Eastern Time (GMT - 05:00).
  4. Choose when you want to run processes to delete pages that haven't been visited. Anytime that the site map update, pages that haven't been visited are removed from the site map:
    • Maximum age in days: The number of days that a page can go without being visited before it will be deleted by the Delete Old Pages schedule.
    • Delete Old Pages: How frequently to delete pages that have not been visited based on the Maximum age in days setting.

Example: In your most recent site update, the link to Page A was removed and the web crawler can no longer crawl to Page A. The next time the web crawler runs, Page A is removed from the site map. In another example, Page B was originally on the site map, but had no visits since the last time the web crawler ran. Page B is removed from the site map. Learn more about troubleshooting pages that are missing from your site map.

Note: A page must have a visit to be added to the site map. You cannot view pages that have been removed from the site map.

  5. Click Save Scheduled Maintenance.
  6. You can manually update the site map and delete old page info using the buttons at the bottom of the page.

After you finish, click Site Map An image of the site map icon. to view your site map. See the troubleshooting information below if pages are missing from your site map.

Troubleshooting

  • Verify that the page can be crawled to from your starting pages.
  • Verify that the missing page returns a 200 or 302 status code and has a MIME type of text/html. The web crawler only crawls these pages.
  • Verify that the page has been visited since the last crawl. If a page was not visited, it is removed from the site map.
  • Verify the page has not been marked as invalid or hasn't been hidden. Learn more about marking sites as invalid from this knowledge base article. Learn more about hidden sites from this knowledge base article.
