About Load Balancing

Important: This feature is only available if it is enabled for your account.

Administrators can use load balancing to distribute workload from each From address in your account across multiple VMTAs.

Each From address is assigned one or more VMTAs for promotional or transactional campaigns. For example, from1@yourcompany.com can have two VMTAs for promotional campaigns and one for transactional campaigns. One VMTA is designated as the default VMTA for each purpose. By default, all traffic is sent to that VMTA. Traffic distribution is determined at launch time, based on the specified percentage, the purpose, and the From address.

To specify VMTA distribution

  1. From the side navigation bar, select Account . (If you do not see the side navigation bar, click the Menu button (aka Hamburger menu) icon.)
  2. Select Campaign management, and then select VMTA settings.

The VMTA settings page opens. The page shows all email addresses.

  3. In Promotional Mappings for each From address, specify the distribution percentage for each VMTA.

The total percentages must equal 100% and can have up to 4 decimal values. By default, 100% of the traffic is sent to the default VMTA.

  4. In Transactional Mappings for each From address, specify the distribution percentage for each VMTA.

The total percentages must equal 100% and can have up to 4 decimal values. By default, 100% of the traffic is sent to the default VMTA.

  5. Click Save. Your changes will be applied to all launches that occur after you make the changes.

Tip: When new promotional or transactional IP addresses are added to an account, administrators can use decimal values in the percentage fields to distribute small amounts of email volume through the new IP addresses until they are warmed up.
