About "Skipped" Addresses
There are several reasons why a record in your distribution list may be skipped (meaning the campaign message is not sent to the address associated with that record).
Explicit suppression is a common cause of "skips," and addresses can be suppressed through several mechanisms: account-wide and campaign-specific suppression lists, campaign-specific lists of addresses to avoid, and campaign-specific lists of domains to avoid. There is also a list of domains that can receive only text messages, so the required message format may not be available for a particular address.
Depending on when in the launch process the "skip" occurs, the software has different levels of ability to record specific information about the cause. Here are the reasons that may be listed in the campaign's log table (and in the Skipped drill-down) for skipped records:
- Invalid email address – Or – Bad email address
The address is malformed. At launch time, the software uses a detailed set of Internet standards for determining the validity of each address in your distribution list.
- Email domain is
suppressed.
The address belongs to a domain that is explicitly suppressed.
- Email address is
suppressed.
The address is explicitly suppressed.
- Missing data for $fieldName$
There is no data available in the distribution list, supplemental data sources, or campaign variables to fill in the named text replacement field (
$fieldName$
) in the campaign message document. - Personalization error: message
The cited error (message) occurred during personalization of the campaign message.
- Suppressed
(Test launches) The address is explicitly suppressed, belongs to a domain that is explicitly suppressed, or contains a string that appears in the list of censored words for your account.
