Create a customer payment

Create a customer payment to record funds received and optionally apply them to open receivables transactions. Open Menu > Receivables > Customer payments.

Before you begin

Create the customer and make sure an appropriate payment method is available. To apply the payment immediately, the customer must also have an eligible open transaction, such as an invoice.

To create a customer payment

  1. Open Menu > Receivables > Customer payments.
  2. Select Create customer payment.
  3. Select the Customer.
  4. Enter the transaction date and, if needed, a memo.
  5. Select the Offline payment method and enter the Payment reference, if required.
  6. Enter the payment total. Leave it empty or enter zero if QuickStart should update the total automatically from the selected transactions.
  7. In Transactions to apply, select eligible transactions and review the amounts to apply.
  8. Select Submit.

When you enter a positive total manually, selected transactions cannot increase the applied amount beyond that total. QuickStart uses the available amount in the order in which you select transactions, partially applies the last transaction when necessary, and removes any selection for which no amount remains. When the total is empty or zero, it updates automatically from the selected transactions.

Any payment amount that you do not apply remains available on the customer payment. A zero-total customer payment can be used only to apply existing customer credits to open transactions.
