Create a tax jurisdiction
Create a tax jurisdiction before associating tax agencies, tax types, or customer exemption certificates with that jurisdiction. Select Menu, then select Accounting > Settings.
Before you begin
You need permission to manage tax records.
Create a tax jurisdiction
- Select Menu, then select Accounting > Settings.
- On the Taxes card, select Tax jurisdictions.
- Select Create tax jurisdiction.
- Select the country and State or region represented by the jurisdiction.
- Enter a unique Name.
- Add nontaxable items only when they apply. Select Add item, select the item, and enter its effective dates and note.
- Select Create.
- In Assign tax jurisdiction to my company?, choose one of these options:
- To assign it now, enter the Start date. Enter the Tax registration number, or select This company is tax-exempt in this jurisdiction when applicable. Then select Assign to my company.
- To defer the assignment, select Not now.
The new jurisdiction appears in the Tax jurisdictions list. Assigning it to your company makes it available for applicable tax setup. You can open it to edit, inactivate, or delete it when it is not in use.
