Create a tax type

Create a tax type to group tax behavior and connect a jurisdiction to the account used for tax on sales. Select Menu, then select Accounting > Settings.

Before you begin

Create the required tax jurisdiction and tax account before creating the tax type.

Create a tax type

1. Select Menu, then select Accounting > Settings.
2. On the Taxes card, select Tax types.
3. Select Create tax type.
4. Enter the tax type name, select the country, and optionally enter a description.
5. In Chart of accounts, select Add item.
6. Select the tax jurisdiction and Tax account for sales.
7. Select Create.

The tax type appears in the Tax types list and is available when you create a tax code.
