Create inventory adjustments

Create an inventory adjustment to correct the quantity and value of an inventory item at a location when the change is not represented by a purchase, sale, return, or transfer. Open Menu > Products and services > Manage inventory.

Before you begin

You need an active inventory item, an inventory location, and an adjustment account. Create an operating location under Menu > Administration > QuickStart settings > Company structure > Operating locations if the required location does not exist. Use a positive adjustment quantity to add stock and a negative quantity to remove stock.

Create an inventory adjustment

  1. Open Menu > Products and services > Manage inventory.
  2. In Inventory adjustments, select Create new. You can also open Inventory adjustments and select Create inventory adjustment.
  3. Confirm the Posting date.
  4. Select the Adjustment account that records the adjustment and optionally enter a Memo or Customer.
  5. In Adjustments, select Add item.
  6. Select the Item and Inventory location.
  7. Enter Quantity adjusted. Enter a positive number to increase inventory or a negative number to decrease it.
  8. Confirm Estimated unit cost when it is editable, and select Apply.
  9. Add and apply any other item and location adjustments.
  10. Select Submit.

The adjustment changes the quantity on hand at each selected location. A positive adjustment debits the item’s inventory asset account and credits the selected adjustment account. A negative adjustment reverses those directions. Open the completed adjustment and select Accounting to review the amounts and configured account names.
