Get started with numbering

QuickStart assigns sequential identifiers to transactions and entities. Numbering settings are in Menu > Administration > QuickStart settings > General.

Before you begin

Changing numbering can affect legal, accounting, and integration requirements. Confirm the required format with your accounting administrator before saving a change. You need permission to update company preferences or numbering sequences.

Transaction numbering

Open Transactions > Transaction numbering to configure transaction sequences. Numbering per fiscal year creates separate sequences for fiscal years.

The Sample format field previews the selected combination. Select Save after changing a preference.

Open Transactions > Prefixes to review or edit fiscal-year prefixes. Use the row action for a fiscal year, select Edit, change Prefix, and save the record.

Transaction sequences

Open All transaction sequences to review the sequence for each transaction type and fiscal year. Use the row action to edit the prefix, first number, or minimum number of digits for a sequence.

Existing transaction identifiers do not change when a sequence setting is updated. Avoid changing a sequence after transactions have been created unless your accounting policy requires it.

Entity numbering

Open Entities to configure globally applied numbering for entity records. Use the row action for an entity type to edit its prefix, first number, and minimum number of digits.
