Contact import details

Use contact import to create or update Contact records for people who can be associated with existing parent records, including company customers. This reference identifies supported operations, contact identifiers, parent relationships, required fields, and CSV values needed to process Contact records correctly; it does not create or update company records.

Use the contact record to create, modify, or delete contacts and relate a contact to a parent record.

Supported Operations

File Import for Contacts is used to import external contact records into QuickStart, update fields related to existing contact records, and relate contact records, both internal or external, to existing parent records.

The following operations are supported for this record type:

• Create a new record

• Update an existing record

• Create a new or update an existing record

Usage Notes

• In addition to importing standalone contact records, one of the primary uses of file import for contacts is relating them to customer or other records. In this use case, import the customer or other parent records before relating the contact records to them.

• Relating contact records requires the use of internal or external IDs.

  For more information about using internal or externals IDs, see Reference existing records.

• In the CSV template, remove all empty columns related to unused fields to avoid errors during import.

• Contacts can be related to customer records of the Company customer type. It is not possible to relate contact records to individuals.

  To relate contact records to parent records, the following field is required:

  • Company: A string of up to 255 ASCII characters.

• When importing contact records, the following fields are required:

  • Primary Column: A sequential number beginning with 1.

  • First Name: A string of up to 255 ASCII characters.

  • Last Name: A string of up to 255 ASCII characters.
