Get started with chart of accounts
Your chart of accounts provides the destinations used to post, categorize, track, and report business transactions. During onboarding, QuickStart creates mandatory system accounts and can add suggested accounts based on the business details that you provide.
Review the generated account names, numbers, types, and parent relationships before entering transactions. Automated recommendations can be incomplete or unsuitable for your accounting requirements. Add any missing accounts individually or import your chart of accounts from a CSV file. Do not change mandatory system accounts that QuickStart requires for built-in accounting processes.
There are two ways to access your chart of accounts:
- Open Menu. Under Accounting, select Chart of accounts.
- Search for chart of accounts using the global search field.
You can import your chart of accounts from another system using the File import tool. You’ll need to format the import file so that QuickStart can properly import your accounts. The File import tool includes an example file to help you format your data.
When you create new accounts in QuickStart, you must provide the following:
-
A number
-
A name
-
An account type
You can edit an account after it’s been created, but the account type cannot be changed if the account has transactions posted to it.
You can delete accounts, but the following accounts can’t be deleted:
-
Accounts that have posted transactions
-
Parent accounts
-
Mandatory system accounts
