Usage notes
To import transfer records, two bank accounts must already exist in QuickStart. Open Menu > Accounting > Chart of accounts to create missing accounts. For details, see Create an account.
You can import new transfers or update existing transfers by going to the Bank transfers page and selecting Actions > Import data. Note that the file import dialog on the Bank transfers page is specifically for the Create new or update existing records operation. If you want to use other operations, go to the File import page and select Import. In the file import dialog, select your record type and which operation you want to do. For more information, see File import.
You can download a CSV template file for transfers, which includes all editable fields on the transfer record. You can remove columns that correspond to optional fields that you do not need for your import. To avoid errors during import, remove all columns related to unused fields. For more information about generating the CSV template, see Work with the CSV file template.
To update transfer records, you need to use internal IDs of existing transfer records, which you can see at the end of a record’s URL when you open it in QuickStart. You can reference an internal ID by using the Internal ID column. For more information about using internal IDs, see Reference existing records.
Example of import file for a successful import
The following table is an example of the BankTransfer_CREATE_OR_UPDATE.csv file when updating an existing transfer record and adding a new one. This import uses the Create new or update existing records operation. You can perform this import directly from the Bank transfers page by selecting Actions > Import data.
| Primary Column | Internal ID | Account [receivingAccount] | Account [sendingAccount] | Amount (amount) | Date |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1179 | 200 USD Bank Account | 1010 USD Bank Account | 100 | 11/28/2023 |
| 2 | 200 USD Bank Account | 1010 USD Bank Account | 200 | 11/28/2023 |
This example updates an existing transfer using its internal ID 1179 and adds a new transfer containing the following:
- A transfer amount of $200.
- A transfer date of 11/28/2023.
- A sending account called 1010 USD Bank Account.
- A receiving account called 200 USD Bank Account.
- General ledger impact lines: a credit of $200 for the source account and a debit of $200 for the target account.
