Summarizing Insights with Generative AI
Insights provides the ability to use Generative AI (GenAI) to automatically generate narrative summaries for a single insight or group of insights in Planning.
Utilizing the power of Generative AI to generate insight summaries allows you to share more meaningful detailed information about insights with colleagues. The summaries also make it easier to share summarized information about a set of insights with colleagues.
Insight summaries can be used in these ways:
- For a single insight, to provide additional context beyond the brief rule-based description in the insight.
- For multiple insights, based on a parent member, to generate a summary that evaluates the parent member and all of its children. This summary can help you zero in on the root cause for the insight, and makes it easy to share an analysis of a set of insights with colleagues.
Summaries are available for all insight types.
Note:
Administrators must enable this feature. If the feature is not enabled, you won't see the Insights AI tab or the Summarize menu item.Reviewing Narrative Summaries for a Single Insight
To see a narrative summary for a single insight:
- From the Home page, click IPM and then click Insights to open the Insights dashboard.
- Click the link in the Details column on the Insights dashboard. You see the Analyzer view that includes a description of the insight, along with a graph of the values.
- To see a narrative summary of the insight, click
(Explainability), and then click the Insights AI tab.
GenAI evaluates the existing analysis, metrics, methods, and rule-based summary, and using Large Language Models, generates a meaningful narrative description that describes the impact of the insight.

Reviewing Narrative Summaries for a Set of Insights
To review a narrative summary of a set of insights based on a parent member:
- From the Home page, click IPM and then click Insights to open the Insights dashboard.
- Select an insight for a parent member, and then from the Actions menu, select Summarize. The parent members and POV are the starting point for the analysis.
- Enter a name for the summary.
- Select the insight type.
The analysis reviews and summarizes only a single insight type at a time. For example, you can’t summarize both anomaly insights and forecast variance and bias insights.
- Review the parent members and POV, which are based on your original insight selection, and if needed, use the Member Selector to select different members.
- Click Run.
GenAI evaluates all of the insights of the selected type for the parent members and their children for the specified POV and generates a meaningful summary description. For example, it can identify the child member or members that are contributing to the parent insight and describe the impact.
The summary includes only members that the user has access to.
- On the Insights dashboard, click the Summary tab, and
then click the summary to review.
Note:
This summary uses GenAI. Output from GenAI may not always be factual, accurate, or appropriate. You are responsible for reviewing and using GenAI output at your discretion. In this example, the summary shows that the Forecast Variance and Bias insight is driven by two children of Computer Equipment—Sentinel Standard Notebook and Envoy Custom Notebook and describes their impact on the parent insight.
