About User-Defined Accounts

User-defined accounts are accounts that customers can configure or add in supported account areas.

Depending on the template, some predefined user-defined accounts slots can be edited, and in some cases, you can insert new user-defined accounts.

User-defined accounts can be defined as:

  • Input Accounts

    • If you want to manually enter the value for the account, you define it as an input account. This allows for direct data entry, bypassing any automated calculations.

    • You can also use input accounts to forecast values in forecast periods.
  • Calculated Accounts

    • If you want the account value to be calculated based on other accounts or formulas, define it as a calculated account.
    • This involves specifying a formula that uses output from other accounts to derive the value.
    • In this case, the account's value is recalculated when the model is calculated.

User-defined accounts include the following aggregation types:

  • Flow Accounts: Flow (Input) and Flow (Calculated)

    • Flow accounts aggregate component periods by sum.
    • Flow accounts represent movements, such as sales, expenses, or cash inflows/outflows, that accumulate over periods.
    • Flows do not accept data in the beginning balance period.
  • Balance Accounts: (Balance Input) and Balance (Calculated)

    • Balance accounts use the ending/last component period value.
    • Balance accounts represent the net balance at the end of a period.
    • Balance accounts accept data in the beginning balance period.
    • Balances have the same value in the last component period and the aggregate period.
  • Rate Accounts: (Rate Input) and Rate (Calculated)

    • Rate accounts use weighted average aggregation.
    • Rate accounts are used to calculate rates, such as interest rates, costs per unit, or sales prices, based on the values of other flow or balance accounts.
  • Ratio (Calculated)
    • Ratio accounts are calculated account types requiring a formula.
    • Ratio accounts are used to calculate financial ratios, such as debt-to-equity ratio, gross profit margin, or current ratio, based on the values of other balance or flow accounts.
    • Strategic Modeling automatically calculates certain financial ratios and also supports custom ratio accounts.
  • Discount Rate: Input and Calculated
