Considerations for Creating an Award

Here are a few points to keep in mind while specifying the award details when creating an award:

  • Select the contract type only if the award template doesn't specify a contract type. If the award template specifies a contract type, then the award created from that template is associated with the contract type. If the contract type is set to auto numbering, then the Number field isn't displayed.

  • You can also select a person who's active in HCM after the award start date as the principal investigator. To search and select a principal investigator with a future effective start date, click Search in the Principal Investigator drop-down list and select the Include people with future-dated effective start dates check box in the Search and Select: Principal Investigator page.

  • If the award template and the sponsor don't use LOC billing, you can set the Federal Invoice Format to SF 270.

Here are a few points to keep in mind when you create the project and budget for an award:

  • You can create and associate a project to an award irrespective of whether the project is enabled or not enabled for budgetary control.

  • Only those sponsored projects for which the Enable sponsored projects check box is selected in the Edit project Type setup page are available for selection when associating a project to an award.

  • When associating a project to an award, ensure that the business unit of the project and the award is the same.

  • When associating a project to an award, ensure that the currency of the project matches the currency of the award.
  • You can associate nonbillable projects only to an internal funding source.

  • Quick entries aren't supported while creating project from an award.
