File-Based Data Import in Oracle Fusion Cloud Project Management

Use the file-based data import feature to import large volumes of data from third-party or other Oracle applications, or create new data in Oracle Fusion Cloud Project Management. For example, project administrators can create new projects or import their projects from external applications into Project Foundation using the ProjectImportTemplate.xlsm template.

You can also use certain file-based data import features to update large volumes of existing data in the application.

Load Data into Interface Tables

Perform the following steps to load data to the interface tables:
  1. Download the relevant file-based data import XLSM template.

  2. Enter data in the template.

  3. Click the Generate CSV File button on the Instructions and CSV Generation worksheet in the template to create the CSV files in a zip file format.

  4. Save the zip file locally.

  5. Navigate to the Scheduled Processes page. Select your import process and the locally saved data file and then submit the Load Interface File for Import process to upload your data from the CSV files to the interface tables.

Load Data into Product Tables

Perform the following steps to load data from the interface tables to the product tables:
  1. Navigate to the Scheduled Processes page.

  2. Verify that the Load Interface File for Import process completed successfully.

  3. Submit the product-specific import process.

  4. Verify that the import process completed successfully.

View and Resolve Errors in the Template

You can view and resolve the errors encountered while importing objects using the file-based data import feature through the same template. This error reporting is supported for the following file-based data import features:
  • Import Awards

  • Import Financial Project Plans

  • Import Project Billing Events

  • Import Funding Sources

  • Import Grants Personnel

  • Import Keywords

  • Import Project Budgets

  • Import Project Expense Costs

  • Import Project Forecasts

  • Import Project Inventory Costs

  • Import Project Labor Costs

  • Import Project Miscellaneous Costs

  • Import Project Nonlabor Costs

  • Import Project Rate Schedules

  • Import Project Supplier Costs

  • Import Project Tasks

  • Import Project and Task Transaction Controls

  • Import Projects

  • Import Resource Breakdown Structures

  • Import Project Key Performance Indicators

Perform the following steps to view and resolve errors in the template:
  1. Download the Excel output file that contains the rejected records from the Output section of the Scheduled Processes page. For example, if you run the Import Project and Task transaction Controls process and there are rejected records, then download the Import Project and Task Transaction Controls Rejections output file.

  2. View the error, error reason, and resolution in the Error Message column in the Excel output. This column appears as the first column in the output. For successfully processed records, the value of this column is blank.

  3. Correct the records and regenerate the CSV files in a zip file format.

  4. Navigate to the Schedule Processes page and submit the import processes to upload the corrected records again.

Manage Data in Interface Tables

To manage the growth of product interface tables, there is an automatic process to purge the interface tables that is initiated for each file-based data import process for data records older than 30 days. Use the Purge Interface Tables process to manually delete data from the interface tables of a specific import process. You can use this process to delete incorrect data that you upload using the XLSM template.

Use Web Services

You can automate the entire inbound data flow using web services as an alternative to the manual approach outlined above. In addition, you can manage data from product interface and error tables with streamlined purge capabilities.
