Payroll Element Setup Instructions for Non-Oracle Payroll Customers

Customers who haven't deployed Oracle Cloud Payroll may not have setup payroll elements. In order to use them in Labor Distribution, you must set up all payroll elements that you plan to import into Labor Distribution.

The steps below are simple setup instructions. For more information, see Set Up Elements in the Oracle Global Human Resources Cloud Implementing Payroll for Global guide.

Overview

A pay element is a type of pay that a person and assignment can receive. For example, Bonus is a common pay element that can be included in a person and assignment pay combination. Labor Distribution enables labor schedule administrators to define labor schedules for pay elements.

In order to ensure accuracy and to enable the usage of Pay Element as an accounting attribute, the Labor Distribution solution leverages the Human Capital Management (HCM) Payroll element object.

Create and Maintain Elements

For customers using Oracle HCM Payroll, pay element objects will already be configured. However, if you're not using Oracle HCM Payroll, use the Setup and Maintenance > Elements task to create pay elements that you can use in your labor schedules. For detailed guidance on performing this task, see Create Payroll Elements in the Administering Oracle Payroll Interface guide.

When you create a pay element and you query for it later, you can see that three additional elements are created based on the Legislative Data Group you selected. These are part of the Time and Labor module and are used for calculating, distributing, and reporting on employee earnings in Oracle Payroll. If you aren't using Payroll, these do not apply to you, and you can safely ignore them.

Loading Elements from Third Party Applications

You can load elements from a separate payroll system using the HCM Data Loader solution. For information on how to load elements, see the Loading Payroll Setup Objects section in the HCM Data Loading Business Objects guide.
