Setting Up Pending Inspections
Use pending inspection setup to identify inspections that are required for permit and business license applications before the inspections are ready to be requested or scheduled. Agencies can enable staff to create pending inspections manually and can configure pending inspections to be created automatically based on the inspection groups associated with permit and business license types.
Applicants can’t create pending inspections. Depending on agency setup and the application status, applicants with application access can request or schedule an inspection after it has been created in Pending status. For information about working with pending inspections after they’re created, see Requesting and Scheduling Inspections.
Before setting up pending inspections:
-
Configure the inspection types that your agency uses.
-
Create the inspection groups that contain the applicable inspection types.
-
Determine which inspection groups apply to:
-
Original permit activity.
-
Permit renewal activity.
-
Business license origination, amendment, and renewal activity.
-
For more information, see Setting Up Inspection Types and Setting Up Inspection Groups.
Pending-inspection setup consists of these levels:
|
Setup Level |
Purpose |
|---|---|
|
Agency options |
Enables manual creation of pending inspections and, optionally, automatic creation of pending inspections. |
|
Permit or business license type |
Identifies the inspection group for the application activity and the inspection types that are created automatically in Pending status. |
|
Business Rules Framework |
Initiates automatic creation when a supported permit or business license event occurs. Oracle delivers the applicable events and default rules enabled. |
Both the agency-level setup and application-type setup are required for automatic pending inspection creation. The applicable Business Rules Framework event and rule must also remain enabled.
Automatic pending inspection creation is initiated through delivered Business Rules Framework (BRF) events. The events run asynchronously, so the application or location update can finish before the inspection records are created. No additional BRF setup is required.
Before you begin, set up inspections for permits and licenses at the agency, application type, and inspection type levels:
-
At the agency-level, enable creation of pending inspections and enable automatic creation of pending inspections for each offering with inspections.
For more information, see Setting Up Agency-Level Options for Permits and Setting Up Agency-Level Options for Business Licenses.
-
Set up application type with inspection groups:
For permit application types, select the Permit Inspection Group and, for renewable permits, the Renewal Inspection Group.
For license application types, select the applicable Origination, Amendment, and Renewal Inspection Groups.
For more information, see Setting Up Inspection Groups, Setting Up Permit Types, and Setting Up Business License Types.
-
Enable pending inspection for each applicable inspection type.
In the automatic inspection setup drawer, use the Enable Pending Inspection row action to enable automatic pending inspection creation for each inspection type. For more information, see Setting Up Recurring Inspections and Reinspections.
Enabling Pending Inspections for the Agency
Configure pending inspections in the Inspections section of the agency options for Permits or Business Licenses.

Enabling Automatically Created Pending Inspections
In the automatic inspection setup drawer, use the Enable Pending Inspection row action to enable automatic pending inspection creation for each inspection type. Click the action again to disable pending inspections. You can also select multiple rows and use the pending inspection bulk action to enable or disable pending inspection creation for the selected inspection types.
For more information about working with pending inspections in Requesting and Scheduling Inspections.
How Business Rules Framework Processing Works
The Create pending inspections action for these new Business Rules Framework events initiates processing to create pending inspections, depending on agency inspection setup for permits and licenses.
The default rule and criteria for the events with the Create pending inspection action are delivered and enabled for these events:
|
Offering |
Event |
|---|---|
|
Permits |
Permit Updated and Create Pending Inspections |
|
Business Licenses |
Business License Updated and Create Pending Inspections |
Because the rule runs asynchronously, pending inspections might not appear immediately. Application submission or the triggering update can finish before the pending inspections are available. For more information, see Working with Event Processing Details.
